What
Is Physical Therapy?
Physical
Therapy (P.T.) is the medical specialty focused on evaluating and
treating the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular problems that affect
your ability to move the way you want in your daily life. A large
part of each treatment program is directed at preventing injury
and the loss of movement.
Treatment
includes hands-on care, therapeutic exercise, functional training,
pain control, and patient education emphasizing the independent
management of the patient's condition by the patient. The sooner
you can manage your own condition, the more successful the outcome.
What
Does A Physical Therapist Do?
As
a licensed professional, a physical therapist evaluates your condition
and sets up an appropriate, personalized exercise plan of care,
then modifies that plan as your condition improves.

How
Do I Get Physical Therapy?
You
have the freedom to choose your own physical therapist. As of
December 2006, residents in New York can go directly to a physical
therapist without a physician's referral first.
Keep
in mind that your insurance policy may require a visit to the
primary care physician first or limit your access to only preferred
providers.
Who
Pays For Physical Therapy?
In
most cases, your medical insurance will cover your physical therapy
services; you simply pay your standard specialist co-payment, as
dictated by your insurance plan. Check with your specific plan for
details.
Victor
Physical Therapy is a preferred provider for most major health networks
in the greater Rochester area.
